Happy Friday, fandom! It’s been a busy week for fannish goings-on.I just ignored the angst tag on a fic to my own massive detriment, so if you’ve got any delightfully fluffy fic recs, send them my way!
-Oh, this fanvid gives me ALL THE FEELS about Sherlock & John. And also about Steven Moffat pushing back the production schedule for season 3, because come on.
-And in other squash-the-hearts-of-an-entire-fandom news, Merlin has been cancelled. Apparently they plan to bring the show to a “natural and dramatic end,” but it’s hard to imagine it ending anywhere other than where the legend would itself- namely, Arthur dead at the hands of Mordred. Um, no thanks. I’d rather just read another Merlin/Arthur coffeeshop!AU.
-The first synopsis has been released for Star Trek Into Darkness
In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”
Plenty of speculation about what it all breaks down to, but my money has been on Gary Mitchell for a while now. I’m honestly not convinced that Gary Mitchell is enough of a villain for a full-length film, but I’ve got faith in you, J.J. Abrams.
-the first clip for The Hobbit has been released! It features Gandalf giving Bilbo Sting, presumably while splitting up the troll-hoard. SO EXCITED.
Promised Eternity (A Ring of Endless Light Remix), by victoria p. Fandom: Harry Potter Pairing: Remus/Sirius Rating: NC-17 | My most-favorite of all the “what happens to Sirius after he goes through the Veil” fics. The Veil sends Sirius back in time and gives him the chance to remake the decision that caused a terrible cosmic imbalance. The characterization in this fic is absolutely gorgeous, and more than a little heart-breaking.
Sirius sucked in a deep breath. This was it. This was the night he’d convinced them to make the switch, to make Peter the Secret Keeper. He’d lived it over and over again in Azkaban, every word, every look, every doubt about Remus, about himself. He closed his eyes again, opened them, and stared down at his hands — the skin smooth and supple and lightly tanned, rather than pale and ashy and pulled too tightly over prominent knuckles. He swallowed hard.
“So what’s this brilliant plan of yours, then?” Lily prompted, and he felt a sob rise in his chest, choked it down. He didn’t want to say the words. He wouldn’t say the words. Not this time.
For the World’s More Full of Weeping than You Can Understand, by gidget_zb. Fandom: Doctor Who. Pairing: River/11. Rating: PG | Oh, River. The tragedy and brilliance that is River and the Doctor just breaks my heart, every time. This is a lovely fic that explores both the things that make it okay and the things that make it brutal.
“You don’t know me.” She insists and his face is saddened by her vehemence, though he shakes his head in disagreement.
“No, you don’t know me.” He walks closer to her and she skitters away from him in fear, but her heart beats valiantly against her rib cage and she thinks the ache resulting from its exercise is something close to longing. “I know you, River Song.”
“Me in the future – maybe, yes. But you don’t know me now. People change, Doctor. You’ve no idea how much I’ve changed from now until then.” Her words are desperate and frantic and he pauses to stare at her with such a sad expression and such love behind his ancient eyes. “I’m not who you’re looking for.” She whispers the words, because she isn’t. She isn’t – she can’t be. Because if he knew her, knew who she was, knew the type of person she was –
He wouldn’t be able to look at her like that.
